Why is surface preparation so important? - Gyproc Tools Blog

Surface preparation is essential in achieving the perfect finish.

Each surface comes with its own set of challenges, from dust, old layers of paint to dirt.

Surface preparation is necessary for applying a new coating to a surface. This ensures that the new layer will adhere well and improves the durability of the coating. To achieve this, you’ll need to remove old layers of rust, paint, and other dirt from the surface.

When it comes to preparing drywall, you must ensure the surface is primed before painting.

To prime your drywall, dry lining, wallboard, or wall panels, you’ll need to start by cleaning the surface by sanding, vacuuming, and rubbing it down with a cloth to ensure that all dust is gone.

Once that’s complete, you can begin applying primer so that you can ensure that your paint stays in place for a long time.

How to prepare your drywall

1. Examine your drywall.

See if there are any grooves or holes. If you do find some, fill them in by using Gyproc ready-mix or powder products:

2. Use a drywall sander or block sander to smoothen the surface.

3. Remove dust from your drywall

Using the suction attachment on your vacuum. Use a black towel to gently run over the wall to check for remaining dust and vacuum once more.

4. You can clean and prepare the drywall with a damp sponge.

5. Ensure your drywall is completely dry before applying primer or paint.

What kind of products can you use to achieve a smooth and clean surface?

Drywall sanders, sanding paper, and dust extraction units quickly sand drywalls to a flat finish ready for decoration.

Smaller jobs may require a general-purpose plastic hand sander like Gyproc’s block sander.

For larger jobs, flex sanders like the Flex GE5 Round Edged 110V are light and robust, easy-to-use, and comfortable to handle, making short work of drywall finishing.

Flex vacuums offer efficient wet or dry dust extraction. The Flex Class M safety vacuum cleaner, which can be found on Gyproc Tools, has a high-performance turbine that ensures both a high suction capacity and a high vacuum for top class extraction. You can also find replacement sanding discs, vacuum bags, and filters for these sanders and vacuums.
